Start with the symptom

What is the pump doing?

The pressure switch tells the pump when to start and stop. When it fails, the pump’s behaviour usually gives it away.

  • Pump won’t start

No water, and no sound of the pump coming on.

  • Pump won’t shut off

It keeps running long after the taps are closed.

  • Works on and off

Some days fine, some days nothing, with no clear pattern.

  • Clicking or chattering

Rapid clicking at the switch near the tank.

Pump running nonstop? A pump that won’t shut off needs attention. Call now. We can almost always be there today.

Why Duckett

Same day, almost every time. Priced before we start.

Two promises we keep, in our customers’ own words from Google.

Sometimes under 2 hours

Promise 1 · Same day

There today, almost every time.

Almost every visit happens the same day you call. Sometimes we’re at the door within two hours.

  • “From the time I called the office, a technician was at my house in 9 minutes.”
  • “Fast, friendly and efficient - went the extra mile to purchase needed garbage disposal and install same day.”

Then the work starts

Promise 2 · Written price

The price in writing, first.

The technician finds the cause and writes down the price before any work starts. You decide from there.

  • “…they came out. Diagnosed the problem. Got it fixed at an unbelievable fair rate…”
  • “…did the job in a timely manner, extremely fair priced, cleaned up the site…”

Why homeowners call Duckett

Know who’s coming. Before the first call.

Read what customers say on Google, then call. Duckett starts with what your well is doing and explains the options before any work begins.

Will and Nate were.so knowledgeable and quickly assessed and diagnosed our issue with our water pressure. In addition, they provided helpful advice for troubleshooting should future issues surface. They were timely and professional and the prices were reasonable. We will call on them for future services.

These guys are awesome. I called and they were on it the next day. We had a water line installed from home down to dock, had a sewer leak, a toilet running, a hot water heater installed and low water pressure. They repaired everything. All the employees were so kind and done more that what they were supposed to do. I highly recommend this company to do a great job.

My son recently inherited a 1945 mill home from his grandparents. The home needs a complete rehab, but we were looking to make it livable until the spring. It’s in a very small town and plumbers willing to take the job are limited. From the very first phone call late on a Friday afternoon about a big water leak, to the completion of the job, Duckett Plumbing exceeded my expectations. These guys are so knowledgeable. They provided me with solid options based on our needs and budget. Wayne was the best! He completed all the work on our very necessary bathroom fixes. New toilet, new shower fixtures and new shower surround. He’s thoughtful of his work and provided the best customer experience. He went so far above and beyond what was requested.

We needed plumbing work done soon and they were able to come to the house the same day and completely finish the work that needed to be done. They came after 6:00 pm pumped the septic tank and made a baffle and was done properly around 8:30 pm. We are very pleased with them!!!!

What to expect

Test the controls before replacing parts.

  1. Tell us what changed

Describe when the pump runs, when it doesn’t, and any sounds at the switch.

  2. Check switch and supply

A technician tests the switch, its connections and the parts around it.

  3. Review the fix

See what was found and the pricing before repair begins.

A small part with a big job

The switch connects pressure to pump.

It reads the system’s pressure and turns the pump on and off. A fault here can look like a failed pump, which is why it’s tested first.

  • Switch conditionContacts, settings and signs of wear or damage.
  • Power and wiringWhether power reaches the switch and the pump as it should.
  • Pressure tankTank problems can make a good switch misbehave.
  • Sensing line and fittingsClogs or leaks that give the switch a false reading.

Pressure switch questions

Common questions about well pressure switches.

The cause can be the switch, the power to it or another part of the system.

How do I know it’s the pressure switch?

A pump that won’t start, won’t stop or works intermittently often points to the switch, but wiring, the tank and the pump can cause the same symptoms. Testing tells them apart.

Is a running pump an emergency?

A pump that won’t shut off can wear quickly and may signal a leak or control fault. Call to talk it through.

Can you just replace the switch?

If the switch is the cause, yes. If something else is making it fail, you’ll hear that before any work starts.

Why is the switch clicking?

Rapid clicking can come from a worn switch, a pressure tank problem or a clogged sensing line. All three are checked.

Do you work on the rest of the well system?

Yes. Duckett handles well pumps, pressure tanks and the piping as well as switches.
